Today, I was having lunch at Whole Foods Market, and as I was chewing the last bite of my roast beef wrap, my ears picked up on the sound of Jody Watley's 1987 song, Some Kind of Lover on the speakers. I remember thinking, "Man, that wrap was amazing. Is that Jody Watley?"
Remember this song? The synthesizer bass, the seductive opening vocal, complete with a sample of her hit, Looking For A New Love? The video, well, call it "dated," yet I would argue still better than some of the Pop videos I see today. I honestly haven't seen it in years, decades even? I forgot how much I used to love watching it, especially her dancing and weaving in and out of the white columns, and toward the end of the video, peering down into a mirror-plated column. And less we forget, the black bike shorts, the big hoop earrings, and her running her fingers through all that big hair. Much Retro Respect to the beautiful Miss Jody Watley. BSo
