Last year, the true Princess
of Pop, Kylie Minogue launched her most stylized, most vibrant, and wettest,
concert spectacle. Entitled Aphrodite Les Folies, Minogue set out on her 10th tour to
promote her latest endeavor, Aphrodite.
Minogue and her team, headed
up by Creative Director William Baker, delivered a tour that featured Kylie
rising up on a golden half-shell at the start of the show, ordering around
gladiators and chariot-pulling “horses”/dancers, straddling a golden Pegasus,
gliding through the air on the back of an angel, and ending each show with the
most beautifully euphoric, chill-bump-inducing indoor water show. Combining
live vocals, yes live, with feathery fashion and tight, energetic choreography,
Kylie has officially set the benchmark for Pop-concert perfection.
The documentary, My Life As Aphrodite shows the
planning and prepping for the audio and visual feast that satiated hundreds of
thousands of fans across the globe (thankfully, North America was included). It’s an inspiring look at the power of
talented and creative people who all come together to work together to create
one single vision.
A highlight in part one
occurs when Kylie and crew, down in the pit in front of the stage known as the
Splash Zone, assemble for a meeting in what she calls, “the circle of trust.”
She starts the meeting by saying, “Hi, I’m Kylie, and I am Aphrodite.” She
later explains to the videographer, “I think some people were nervous. I said,
‘It’s alright, you don’t need a joke or a special party trick. Just
say who you are and what you do…’” That light, inviting energy confirms why so
many people scramble to work their hardest for this pint-size dynamo with the
gallon-size vision. Embedded are the four parts of the 30-minute documentary, so enjoy them at your leisure. BSo
