This short behind-the-scenes
clip shows how Madonna and her creative team have incorporated Swarovski
crystal elements into her MDNA
tour costumes. The clip features Madonna’s long-time head dresser, Tony
Villanueva, providing insight into where these beautiful crystals appear on
outfits worn throughout the show.
As mentioned in a previous
post, Madonna and her male dancers don super-high high heels in the opening
number, Girl Gone Wild. You can
now see the stilettos up close, with literally the stems covered in Swarovski
crystals. Villanueva also shows the loops that went into creating Madonna’s Joan of
Arc-inspired armor. Pretty spectacular!
The clip also references and
briefly shows the dancer Kupono “Pono” Aweau in his “bunny ears” headpiece
during Vogue. After some
research, I discovered that “Pono” is originally from Hawaii and has appeared
on the FOX dance-competition show, So You Think You Can Dance. (Madonna is no stranger to hiring talented dancers
from the 50th. In 1993, she hired the In Living Color dancer, and now Dancing with the Stars judge, Carrie Ann Inaba for The Girlie Show.)
MDNA 2012 looks like a gleaming good time. C’mon October! BSo
