Here are two NBC.com clips from the second episode of The New Normal. First is a flashback that shows how David and Bryan met. There are so many smart elements in this 1:40 clip. David, with "my boys," are out celebrating their graduation that day from medical school. David is surrounded by love and support from his straight friends, as they respect David and want him to have some fun at a gay bar. At one point, David simply says: "My friends are really rooting for me..."
There, David goes up to preppy Bryan. When Bryan hears that David just graduated medical school, Bryan's reaction sums up part of his character: "That's a lot of reading." And when '80s classic, Cruel Summer begins to play, David is weary of dancing with Bryan, wondering who in fact leads. But Bryan simply leans in and says: "It's Bananarama, sweetie, we all do." Have more accurate words ever been uttered? Fantastic!
As mentioned in an earlier post this week, Shania is a dead-ringer for Little Edie Bouvier Beale from Grey Gardens. Bryan tries his hardest to reprimand her for something she has allegedly done wrong. But Bryan gets so distracted by this mesmerizing little girl, the responsible duties can wait until David gets home, who is "... dressed like one of Madonna's boyfriends." BSo
