Dose of Minogue: “Skirt” Gets a New Cut

As I referenced in a post last month on Kylie’s birthday, her new single, Skirt is “… heavy on the stuttering synth, unfortunately drowning out Kylie’s vocal…” On Monday, Kylie released six Skirt remixes. This particular Switch remix slows the original down, creating a groovier experience on the ears, thanks in part to the predominance of the synth-bass notes heard immediately at the start of the remix (and wonderfully isolated during the last 20 seconds to finish out the funky, head-bobbing experience). There are also bubbly keyboard bits that allow the remix to take on a thankfully calmer, more ethereal feel. In addition, Kylie’s vocal (still intentionally manipulated in a few areas throughout the song) has come a little further up to the front, more of feature compared to the overuse of production in the original that, again, unfortunately drowned her out. Slip on this Skirt—this one fits a lot better. BSo
