6/24/12: Sunday-afternoon music

Sunday afternoon usually has me listening to KFOG in my apartment, paying bills, changing sheets, the usual. What is so great about KFOG is their mix of older pop/rock, while embracing the new. In one hour, I heard these two songs from newer artists, very different in style, but both sum up KFOG so well.

Take a listen to French Electronica band, M83, with their song, Midnight City—a song that would definitely fall into my “Holy Synth!” blog category. Deep, eighties-inspired synthesizer sounds mixed in with rapid drums, even a little saxophone at the end. I had never heard this song before, but literally started looking them up online before the song was even halfway through. Featured in the still is the singer, Anthony Gonzalez.

The other song, Hold On, by Alabama Shakes has a bluesy, bayou, Southern-rock feel to it. I had been hearing this song a lot on KFOG and thought it was Jack White. Little did I know, the lead singer of this band is actually: Brittany Howard. According to the KFOG site, the band was formed in Athens, Alabama. BSo
