Kylie Minogue: The Abbey Road Sessions

On November 6 in the US, Kylie will release a 16-track album of remixes, not dance remixes of her songs, but ones completely reimagined and recorded with her band and a full orchestra at London’s Abbey Road Studios. Throughout the year, she released footage of her singing a few of the songs, such as 1992’s Finer Feelings, 2000’s On A Night Like This and 2010’s All the Lovers.

Last weekend, Kylie headlined Proms in the Park and performed with the BBC concert orchestra in front of a massive crowd in London’s Hyde Park. Yet it was an acoustic version of her 2007 song, Wow that surprised me the most. (Sidebar: Wow has one of my favorite Kylie lyrics: I can't resist/You're so hot/Get me into the shade.) Joining her on stage was the London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC) and they did not disappoint. Unfortunately, this version of Wow does not appear in the track listing for The Abbey Road Sessions, which was posted on Kylie’s website. Regardless, the tracks chosen for the album are sure to showcase Kylie's vocal control, combined with that big orchestral sound.

Embedded first is the video—and original sound/vision—for Wow
, complete with piano lead-in, followed by other infectious elements, such as that high guitar scratch and the offset of a low popping bass line. Under that clip is Kylie and LCGC’s equally celebratory version. BSo
