Scissor Sisters: Let’s Have a Kiki

The video for the single, Let’s Have a Kiki from the ever-inspiring Scissor Sisters is presented as part sing-along, complete with highlighted lyrics onscreen, and part instructional dance lesson (note the seamless single take), resulting in 4:05 of all-out, full-blown attitude.

Ana Matronic is a standout at the beginning, serving up major ‘tude as she leaves a voicemail recounting her misadventures through the streets of New York. Jake Shears lends his friendly support, ready to bust-a-move (and boy, does he!) in his mesh tank top and football pants (naturally). Babydaddy is featured on the drum machine and Del Marquis on tambourine, with two female backup teachers to bookend the how-to.

Although the video is filmed in a single space, there is so much that goes on. It almost requires 4 or more viewings to really take in each choreographer’s individual teaching style, albeit it’s a style that is delightfully unpolished and full of abandon.

Let’s Have a Kiki is pure Scissor Sisters—fun, catchy (to a ridiculous degree) and smartly silly, allowing you to “bid adieu to your ennui.” And don’t fret, Ana will explain what a kiki is, and according to her, it’s “marvelous.” Important note: Her choice of language is quite “colorful,” so definitely keep the sing-along adults only.
