Kylie, It’s Cold Outside: Duets with Rod Stewart on “Let It Snow”—A Perfect Blend of Fire and Ice

In support of his Holiday album, Merry Christmas, Baby, Rod Stewart performed Christmas classics at Stirling Castle with the likes of Michael Buble, David Foster on piano, and Kylie Minogue.

“Raspy Rod” takes the first verse of the smooth, jazzy rendition of Let It Snow, yet it’s when he calls up the international Australian superstar (in a jaw-dropping red-sequin gown), that the duet really takes harmonious shape, especially at: “When we finally kiss goodnight/How I hate going out in that storm/But if you really hold me tight/All the way home I’ll be warm.”

Kylie’s distinct upper-register vibrato rounds out the sound, and once again solidifies her as one of the very few Pop singers who could really make a living as a legit jazz singer (Lady Gaga being the other). Even Kylie’s lower register at "The lights are turned way down low" is nothing short of sultry; her signature purr at 1:56 is a treat; her request to Rod at 2:42, another sultry, flirty highlight.

Together, Rod and Kylie have great chemistry, especially as they briefly segue into a version of Baby, It’s Cold Outside. This performance makes for a well-needed warm-and-cozy Holiday moment. BSo
