Passion Pit: “Carried Away”

I’ve been hearing Passion Pit’s Carried Away on KFOG over the past weeks and was going to blog about it, yet for one reason or another I didn’t—guess I got distracted with the Oscars and last week’s installment of Dose of Minogue. Yet today, I saw the video for Carried Away on the Fuse Music Network, then shortly thereafter I turned on KFOG and suddenly heard the group’s previous single, Take A Walk. With those two occurrences happening within just a few hours, I had to make it a point to post the video for Carried Away.

The bouncy synth-bass song is certainly juxtaposed against a series of awkward voyeuristic vignettes showcasing the highs and spiteful lows of love. Chronicling the topsy-turvy relationship between a couple played by the lead singer, Michael Angelakos and the actress Sophia Bush, the video uses subtitles to relay the biting jabs the dysfunctional, albeit highly attractive, seemingly well-put-together couple trade between each other. The subtitles, however, become representative of the heavy, expansive weight of words spoken and the overwhelming tension and destruction they can cause.

Bush’s look is reminiscent of another brunette, the actress and She & Him lead singer, Zooey Deschanel, which funnily enough appeared in that heartwarming and equally heartbreaking “story about love, but not a love story” film, (500) Days of Summer. BSo
