Retro Respect: Still Mad About Belinda Carlisle

I’ve been tuning into VH-1 Classic and I thankfully stumbled upon Totally ‘80s this morning. And what catapulted me back to age 13? Belinda Carlisle’s Mad About You, from her first solo effort, Belinda.

Signature Carlisle: seductive-sounding lower-register verses; cheery choruses. Carlisle also conveyed ‘60s beach style: prancing around in a little black dress and Ray-Bans, sporting golden shoulder-length locks. The video also shows that Carlisle “gave good face,” especially demonstrated as she lounges on a blue-and-white-striped couch, looking up and out a window. Wow!

The video also features several guest spots: Carlisle twirls and flirts around a mid-century-modern bungalow with Morgan Mason (husband; son of the actor James Mason); has a laugh with the Go-Go’s guitarist, Charlotte Caffey; and listens to a live performance from Duran Duran guitarist, Andy Taylor. She also channels her best Ann-Margret, as she sits in the passenger seat of a convertible.

And finally, what is thankfully captured near the end of this video: Belinda on the beach, doing the classic Carlisle dance move.

Hope Mad About You brings a beam of California sunshine into your day. BSo
