Kylie Dose: “Got To Be Certain” from “The Kylie Show”

This week’s dose of Ms. Minogue comes from her 2007 U.K. TV-variety special entitled, The Kylie Show, which aired to support her tenth album, X. A collection of comedic vignettes, guest spots, and TV-studio performance footage, the special harkened back to the days of the Cher variety show in the ‘70s. For good measure, Kylie threw in 1988’s Got To Be Certain, an oldie but a goodie amidst all the newer material.

In the song—an ode to cautious control during the early stages of a relationship—Kylie wants to be certain about her new boyfriend, take her time and make up her mind about when they should, well… you know. Only her second single, Got To Be Certain is delightfully safe; delightfully friendly; delightfully pop.

A master, or mistress, in high-rise heels, note how Kylie navigates the narrow, steep stage stairs with ease, glancing down only on occasion, all while staying in tune and not flubbing up lyrics to this then almost 20-year-old song. Good crowd energy reminds me of the two times I’ve been blessed to see Kylie—no one sits and everyone moves. (PS: Give the clip a few seconds so the audio can load.) BSo
