Dose of Minogue: “Better The Devil You Know” from the Fever Tour

This week’s dose comes from Kylie’s Fever tour 2002 and her 1990 song, Better The Devil You Know, the penultimate song in the tour’s encore (tribal) section. Filmed in Manchester, England, this performance is full of great moments captured by several cameras that show the vastness of the venue and the adoration of its occupants.

A great moment, for instance, occurs when Kylie challenges the audience to sing the chorus and the audience dutifully shouts it back to her. “What do they say?” she then inquires. “It’s better the devil you know…” the audience confirms. Later she shouts, “One more time…” and in an instant she almost can’t take it and falls to her knees, succumb by the love the audience is bestowing upon her.

The opening arrangement of Better The Devil You Know sounds a little like a ‘70’s TV-theme song… not that there’s anything wrong with that. The synthesizer-strings element, plus the guitar scratch before Kylie’s first vocal have always reminded me of the classic Charlie’s Angels theme. BSo
