I recently saw a 2010 episode of Later... With Jools Holland on Palladia that featured the British singer, Jessie J. The Domino hit maker performed a spot-on acoustic version of her song, Price Tag. In the clip below, donning her signature black bob and hoop earrings, Jessie doesn’t just sing the lyrics, but enunciates every word meticulously, telling her story of a world obsessed by “money, money, money.” Dripping with soulful pop and confidence, Jessie sends out a reminder to all who’ll listen: “We just wanna make the world dance/Forget about the price tag.”
This performance also serves as a reminder of how special and refreshing a great vocalist can be. Jessie keeps perfect time with her acoustic guitarist, speeding up certain lyrics without stuttering; breaking down lines and editing out lyrics for added sentiment, all without forgetting her place.
